Servants of the Light (SOL) is a fully contacted Mystery School.  The SOL is a registered, non-profit organization and has approximately 2600 students in 23 different countries.

The founder of SOL, W E Butler, received his training in Dion Fortune's Fraternity of Inner Light, which in turn stemmed from The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. He was also trained by the psychic Robert King. Mr Butler, who died in 1978, served as the school's first Director of Studies. He was succeeded by Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki who currently serves as Director.

The purpose of the SOL is to assist in spreading esoteric knowledge in an ethical manner to all who want to receive it, regardless of religious denomination, gender, nationality, race, age, social position, or income. All who desire to do so should be able to study the Mysteries, the true inner spiritual heritage of the West. These mysteries or esoteric sciences, which in their true form constitute the Yoga of the West, have previously been "occult" (which means "hidden"), but nowadays they can be taught in a more open fashion.

Much of the work of the SOL is done through correspondence courses, but workshops and the experience of lodge membership are also available in some areas.

Like the Mystery Schools of ancient times, the SOL is a three-level structure each with its own assigned work and expectations. We offer an on-going training by means of this  graded structure which allows progress to be made safely and continuously. In this way we are rebuilding the ancient idea of a training and teaching school of the mysteries, within the context of a modern world.

The First Degree Course consists of fifty lessons of one month each.  Each student has a personal tutor to guide and help him or her to get the most out of the Course.  Since the SOL teaches primarily through correspondence, each student works in her or his own home, independently of other students.

The SOL emphasizes independence and free thinking. Our students are expected to draw their own occult conclusions and to depend first and foremost on their own judgment.

The SOL is not affiliated to any political or religious organizations. Neither is the SOL affiliated with any other organization on the earth-plane. In addition to being a registered non-profit organization, all work done by Supervisors and Directors is donated with only such fees charged as are needed to cover expenses.
